We're a Small Group of Oldies...
Like our wonderful products, most of the volunteers at RetroRecords (& Books) have been around for a while, though some of us haven’t weathered as well as our books and albums. (I speak for myself, here!)
Even before COVID-19 came a-calling, there was no avoiding the weakened state of the Rand against major currencies as evidenced by so many small businesses going to the wall.
A huge increase in importation costs caused in part by inflated transportation charges and a poor exchange rate saw two changes in the private sector:
- Retailers stopped importing records, and
- Prices of novels and other books went through the roof.
Our ethos is two-fold. As lovers of great music, (particularly in the vinyl format), and as incurable bookworms, we want to bring these items to others at realistic prices.
Sure, no-one is going to get rich off of this, but that’s fine and brings us to the second part:
We are animal lovers and greatly admire the work being done by FORA, the Friends of Rescued Animals in Gauteng, and support this worthy charity.
